Harald Schnidar at the Opening Panel: Trust is the foundation of international business

Austria and Japan: A perfect match

The high-level panel in the afternoon of the event brought together some of the most influential voices in Austrian-Japanese economic relations. Federal Minister of Economy, Energy and Tourism, Mag. Dr. Wolfgang Hattmannsdorfer, made a compelling case for why the relationship between Austria and Japan holds tremendous potential - describing the two countries as "a perfect match".

His ambition is concrete: bringing more Japanese companies into the Austrian market. Austria is a home of hidden champions, a hub for Research and Development (R&D), and a country of highly educated workforces - positioned at the heart of Europe as a gateway to eastern, southeastern, and southern European markets.

In January 2026, Hattmannsdorfer introduced Austria's first industrial strategy with a bold target: to position Austria among the top 10 economies worldwide, with GDP growth rising from 16% to 20%. He identified nine key industrial technologies where Austria holds strategic strength - among them automotive, robotics, advanced materials, quantum technology, mobility, biotech, and healthcare. The Austrian advantage, he noted, further lies in the spirit of international cooperation and economic friendship.
